Gmail now spots bills in your inbox and offers a reminder. What its summary cards do, where they stop, and what is left for you to do.

Gmail shows a summary card on some bill emails. In Google’s own words it lets you “view and pay bills, or get reminded to pay later and add a due date in Google Tasks”, one email at a time, with paying handed off to the biller. Dawn is designed to watch the whole mailbox and keep one list of everything owed, the view those cards never assemble.

If what you want is a nudge on the bills that already show a card, Gmail is already there and free. Nothing here replaces Gmail — Dawn runs on it.

Can Gmail show me everything I owe?

No. Gmail’s cards are attached to individual emails, so there is no single view of every bill outstanding. Seeing what needs paying still means searching your inbox and keeping the list yourself.
